Replication
The need for quality after-school programs isn't unique to Providence. For that reason, PASA's system building and quality improvement models are shared with, and customized by, interested organizations across the country. In this way, PASA's work doesn't just serve the youth of Providence; it improves opportunities for youth across the country.
Once a year, we host a City Symposium for cities who are interested in learning from Providence's model. Drawing on the strengths of city departments, the schools and a broad network of large and small after school community organizations, PASA and its partners have created a respected and proven model of after-school, summer and expanded learning approaches. Cities that attended 2011’s training and toured the AfterZone included Nashville, TN; Charlotte, NC; Ashville, NC; Omaha, NB; New Orleans, LA; and Buffalo, NY and are advancing their after-school systems using knowledge gained in Providence.
PASA tailors the two day learning session to the needs of the cities in attendance in addition to offering sessions addressing the art of building a cross-city after-school system; model ingredients for building a middle school after-school system like the AfterZone; strategies and tools for monitoring and assessing the quality in programming; going deeper working with the schools on joint summer and expanded learning models, and ideas for designing and sustaining a supportive intermediary.
PASA's 2012 City Symposium will be held on March 26th and 27th
