Providence filmmaker, Desi Washington followed students from the AfterZone Summer Scholars Program around Providence and beyond to get their take on summer learning.
From designing and building solar-powered go-carts, to regatta racing on Narragansett Bay, young people in Providence had a productive and fun summer.
Misfited Monsters
Led by former AmeriCorps member and Big Nazo performer Miguel Rivera, Misfited Monsters was a first-time AfterZone program that incorporated literacy (through paranormal research and study), art skills, and video production. Students who participated in the program scripted their own monster movie, designed and created their creatures and sets, and starred in, shot, and edited the final picture.
