Become an AfterZone Summer Scholars Camp Provider!
If you have never been an AfterZone program provider, joining the AfterZone’s network of quality practitioners is a great way to bring your organization’s valuable programming to even more middle school youth. It’s also a unique opportunity to participate in dynamic professional development opportunities that will improve your staff’s practice.
PASA runs two different types of programs throughout the AfterZone Summer Scholars Camp day: a morning STEM program and an afternoon enrichment program. For a complete overview of the daily program schedule, see Appendix A.
The morning program provides intensive (3.5 hours) experiential STEM based learning for a cohort of 28 youth, utilizing a collaborative teaching approach. In order to lead the morning STEM experience, the community organization’s educator will be partnered with a certified Rhode Island teacher and an experienced youth worker, to create and deliver a robust inquiry experience for youth. Organizations involved in the STEM morning program undergo extensive planning and training sessions that begin in March. For a complete overview of the training and planning calendar, see Appendix B.
Organizations accepted for the STEM morning programs will receive a $4,895 grant per program*

The afternoon enrichment programs offer one hour activities led twice a week by a community organization that may be based in any field. All programs are held at a school site.
Program grants for the afternoon enrichment programs typically range from $500-$1,175.

Program grants are awarded by a grant review committee and are based on successful proposals. To apply, program providers are required to meet the following criteria:
1. Proof of the applicant’s 501(c)(3) status or a for-profit agency in good standing with the IRS
2. Proof of liability insurance of up to $1 million with the Providence After School Alliance and Providence School Department listed as additionally insured
3. Proof of National and State Criminal Background Check on all youth workers
4. An established record of success with youth-oriented programming
If you are interested in becoming a new AfterZone program provider, PASA staff will provide an overview of how to prepare for and navigate the proposal submission process during two technical assistance sessions in conjunction with RFP release. A TA session for Morning STEM Programs will be held Friday, December 19th, 9:30am – 10:30am and a TA session for Afternoon Enrichment Programs will be held Friday, December 19th, 2-3pm. Both sessions will take place at the PASA office, 140 Broadway, Providence, RI.

To support its AfterZone program providers, PASA offers program grants that typically range from $1200-$3500. Funding for AfterZone programs comes from a combination of private and federal sources.
Program grants are awarded by a grant review committee and are based on successful proposals. To apply, program providers are required to meet the following criteria:
1. Proof of the applicant’s 501(c)(3) status or a for-profit agency in good standing with the IRS
2. Proof of liability insurance of up to $1 million with the Providence After School Alliance listed as additionally insured
3. Dynamic curriculum
4. Instructors with demonstrable youth development skills and experience

Become a Hub Program Provider!
The Hub’s Expanded Learning Opportunities (ELOs) initiative provides an opportunity for high school students to earn credit beyond school hours for participating in after-school programs, internships, and other community-based programs.
PASA issues requests for proposals for ELO program providers here twice a year.
To support its Hub program providers, PASA offers program stipends to offset administrative costs associated with planning, professional development, and administrative tasks.
ELO Program Structure follows a systems building design and a formalized process designed by PASA, Providence Schools, and key community partners. PASA serves as a broker between the schools and ELO community partners to ensure that ELO programs are aligned to academic standards, are youth-centered, hands-on, rigorous, and grounded in real-world experience and follow the following core principles:
1. High quality rigorous learning experiences beyond the classroom – Youth engage in community-based after-school programs, internships and independent studies facilitated by community partners and supported by teachers to help youth develop specific skills.
2. Learning demonstrations– Youth reflect upon and demonstrate their learning through online student portfolios and by presenting their learning at the conclusion of their experience to a panel.
3. Recognition of learning – Youth earn course credit and other recognition – including digital “badges” detailing their learning – for high-quality work aligned with common core state standards.
ELO programs are chosen by a committee consisting of PPSD staff and community members. To apply, program providers are required to meet the following criteria:
1. Proof of the applicant’s 501(c)(3) status or a for-profit agency in good standing with the IRS
2. Proof of liability insurance of up to $1 million with the Providence After School Alliance listed as additionally insured
3. Dynamic curriculum
4. Instructors with demonstrable youth development skills and experience
